No broken bones!!!! Christine, my PT, really hoofed on my pelvis and then used a tuning fork to determine if I had a fracture. Apparently the vibration would cause a crack/fracture in the bone to cause excruciating pain - no pain! So it turns out I don't have a bruised tailbone, I have a bruised secrum.
Other things I found out:
1. Keep running up to approx. 10 miles
2. Probably no Hagg Lake. Definitely not the 50k, but I'm hoping I get approved for the 25k
3. Walking hurts more than running because different muscles and tendons are used.
4. Ice 2x/day and take plenty of Ibuprofen to get the swelling down.
5. No need for Chiropractic due to muscle versus bone/alignment issue.
6. My hips are more in alignment than last time I saw her.
7. I have a spider web of tape on my backside "pulling" all the yucky stuff out.
At 3:30 today, I feel better than I have at 3:30 for the past 10 days - woo wee!
Run on (and on) Raggy!

Bruised bum, big bummer
Bruised bum is turning out to be a big bummer. I went to the Doc this past weekend after having quite a pain flare-up and confirmed it was not broken and there was no nerve damage. Whew! However, even knowing this information doesn't aleve the fact that the pain is there all day and although Mr. Donut is my friend, I wish I didn't have to sit on him all day.
Wednesday I go to PT to see what Christine says. I'm hoping she will say running is the best medicine and that I can run through the pain as long as I ice afterwards. Worst case is that she says I have to focus on low impact until the pain goes away. I feel like I struggle enough with trying to keep up a training plan that this injury seems to have come at the wrong time. But I guess, when is the right time for injury?

Pine to Palm - here I come!
I just signed up for my first 100miler and I'm so excited! I pinned the map and profile to the wall above my desk. But now all I want to do is run!

Mr. Donut
Today I left work early to buy Mr. Donut. Two days at a desk job isn't the greatest for a bruised tailbone. I didn't really want to get Mr. D because it would mean I was actually hurt. But, wow! After he was blown up and I sat down for the first time, it was heaven. (I tried my best to word this so it wouldn't sound suggestive). I love Mr. Donut and I think he's going to be in my life for a little while.
Running w/ Deb
What I didn't say in my last post was how I enjoyed the first 4 miles of the run with my friend Deb. We met before the "official" run began and had a leisurely run on the Fox Hollow to Willamette section of the Ridgeline trail. It is always great to run with Deb because we keep the chatter going the whole time and it makes time fly. I'm amazed at Deb's determination and drive to be better, go longer and her thrill of going downhill. I'm more of a uphill gal, so I guess that's another good balance.

Slippage onto the Buttage
Wow. It’s been a long time since my last post. Making it through the holidays this year was it’s own long distance run for me. For whatever reason, I just couldn’t muster the energy to be festive. I found myself going through the motions, but without much energy. Luckily Tim was in his holiday finest. Cooking, playing Christmas Carols and having fun shopping for the boys.
So now we’re well into the New Year. This weekend was my first MLK 50k Fat Ass on the Ridgeline trail. Steve Willow did an excellent job organizing the event, unfortunately after mile 11, I was flat on my backside on the top of Spencer Butte Summit – OUCH! The morning was rainy, my shoes were muddy and I started the decent on wet rocks. The best recipe for slippage onto the buttage.
Two days later and I’m thankful. Thankful for not breaking a bone or hitting my head. Thankful for the wonderful people who watched out for me coming down the butte – thanks Cindi and Colleen. I ended up running two more miles and then started on another 2 mile loop only to have a mysterious pain in the back of my knee set in, so I called it a day.
Went home to stretch and start the ice-heat-ice routine. So after feeling sorry for myself and shedding a few tears about missing out on the “event” and more muddy miles, Tim brought the heating pad, Vitamin I, and the ice pack, I settled in to read Dean Karnaze’s book. Quick read and very inspirational. Just what I needed to get me through the next 48 hours.
This morning Lilly popped out of bed when the alarm went off and we went for a “loosening up” run. Buddy didn’t budge off his bed, so he had the day off. Each step was a pain in the butt (literally) however, it’s nothing I can’t live/run with and at least I’m able to run. I plan to take it easy this week and load up some miles this weekend.
